Description:
Mysterious scenarios of magic realism grace the work of Ignacio Gana. Recalling the literature of Latin writers Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Borges, and Lorca, his canvasses explore the realm of surrealist terrains. Ganas world is full of signs and symbols-numbers, and beautiful women in flowing dresses, along mystifying landscapes-that suggest the recesses of an overflowing imagination searching through cultural histories, and the unknown for enlightenment. There is a palatable warmth to Gana’s work- as befitting the dreamscapes of a netherworld. It recalls both the serene, magical landscapes of Rousseau and the absurdist pictorial incongruities of René Magritte. It is the province of dreams, his palette keenly aware of the supernatural world of ghosts, a beautiful, sensual realm of the imagination.
